Driving digital innovation in medical and health based systems

The primary goal of the Foundation, is to help build sustainable healthcare programmes in LMIC settings. We champion using open source software and we support the development of 'in-country' capability to create flexible, scalable, long term solutions.

The Software for Health Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has the benefit of commercial DNA.

The leadership, structure and capability are all borrowed from successful commercial backgrounds, offering efficiency, focus and the ambition to succeed in everything we do.

Low and middle income countries often rely on the support of donor funding to implement healthcare programmes. Where such programmes require advanced and customisable software, and increasingly they do, reliance often limits the long-term efficiency of the project – when the funding runs out, everything stops and the gains are lost.

We strongly believe in the open-source software model, it helps to put empowerment and sustainability at the heart of the software solutions we advocate and design. By helping to nurture and build talent, the Foundation is focused on self-sufficiency through the development of in-country capability to minimise ongoing costs and maximise long term gains.
